About the RCG Network

The Rural Connectivity Group (RCG), established in 2017 through a collaboration between Spark, 2Degrees, and One NZ, significantly enhances mobile coverage and connectivity across New Zealand. This joint venture specifically targets rural areas and tourist hotspots, employing a unique joint funding model. This approach enables the construction of infrastructure in locations where it would otherwise be financially unviable.

A key innovation in the RCG's approach is the use of Multi Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology. This technology is a game-changer in cost minimization, allowing all three mobile network operators to share both spectrum and network equipment efficiently. Each tower is equipped with a single set of antennae, which not only reduces costs but also plays a crucial role in bolstering digital equity. This setup offers rural users a broader range of choices, addressing a critical need in these communities.

An interesting aspect of RCG sites is their location in less densely populated areas, which often leads to underutilization. However, this presents an opportunity: these sites are ideally suited to provide reliable 4G Wireless broadband connections to nearby properties. This capability is particularly beneficial for areas that have traditionally struggled with connectivity issues.

At WombatNET, we recognize the immense value of these RCG sites. Our customers using WombatWireless™4G+ benefit significantly from the expansive network of over 500 RCG sites nationwide. Our high-speed 4G+ modems are specifically designed to complement this network, ensuring that our customers can fully leverage their connection for optimal performance.

Furthermore, WombatNET's direct Access Seeker relationship with the RCG is a strategic advantage. This relationship allows us to co-locate our WombatWireless™X equipment, ensuring that we are at the forefront of providing cutting-edge connectivity solutions. This collaboration not only enhances our service offerings but also aligns with our mission to bridge the digital divide in rural New Zealand, ensuring that every individual and business, regardless of location, has access to high-quality internet services.

Next Generation 4G+ Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router

  • Fast 4G+ CAT18 Speed
  • Faster WiFi 6 Speeds with MU-MIMO technology
  • Mesh Network: Multiple units form a whole-home network that auto-selects the best connection as you move around your home.
  • Full Gigabit Ports: 2x Gigabit WAN/LAN Ethernet ports provide flexible internet access at warp speed
  • VoLTE Support: Convenient home phone over VoLTE.
  • 3G/4G Failover: Flexible access from Ethernet to 3G/4G to prevent data loss.

Wide range of antenna options

Using the built-in antennas of your indoor router can lead to weak signal reception. We can counter this by advising on and installing an outdoor antenna that pairs well with your 4G router.

Areas with weak 4G reception often deliver slower connections as your router may struggle to connect to the 4G tower. An external antenna can help improve this.

Indoor antennas are straightforward to use and can slightly enhance the signal. However, for more significant signal issues, an outdoor antenna is more effective.

Positioned high on your house, outdoor antennas can capture stronger signals, even in areas with weak 4G.

We’ll help select the right antenna considering your location, your home’s structure, and the local 4G signal strength.

With the correct antenna, your internet connection will be stronger, ensuring a better online experience.

WombatWireless™ 4G is a premium wireless broadband service that is delivered via One NZ’s expansive cellphone network. Coverage is available in most locations including anywhere where there is 4G coverage.

If you are further away from the 4G tower you may require an external antenna priced from $99

The WombatWireless™ 4G connection process is dependant on 4G reception/signal levels inside your home.

Self-install:

Self-installs are easy and straightforward. If you are in a location with good 4G coverage, you can simply plug in your WombatNET 4G+ router and be good to go!

  • $20 freight charge applies for the self-install equipment
  • 30 day connection guarantee

Managed Install:

A managed install requires a WombatNET technician to install an antenna and setup your router.

If coverage is limited at your property, there are a number of external antenna options available to help boost your signal, and we will recommend the best one to suit your needs. This may involve the installation of a directional antenna on the outside of your property.

Costs

Because each property is different, often requiring different antennas and mounts, we will first conduct a site-visit to determine what work needs to be completed before we can get you connected.

We will provide you with a no-obligation quote before any work begins.

In simple terms, Wireless Broadband works by transmitting a radio signal from a nearby tower to a receiver either mounted on, or placed inside your home or business.

We utilise two different network types for our Wireless Broadband Products;

Depending on your location, you may be able to access services through our private network of transmitters (towers) that we continue to build throughout the region. These towers are normally built on hilltops and act as a ‘wireless bridge’ to transmit a signal from a fibre source to your home and vice versa.

The other network type that we utilise uses One NZ’s network of Cellphone Towers. This lets you access the internet in the same way that you can on a mobile phone when using data.

Where possible, we prefer to connect customers to our own private transmitter network as it has been designed specifically for Wireless Broadband products, and as such, allows for a more reliable and speedy internet experience.

Although there are sometimes factors that may delay your connection setup, we aim to have most clients connected within 14 days of initial contact.

Depending on the type of connection, these factors may affect how soon we can get you connected:

  • Low or no coverage
  • Poor weather conditions
  • Installer or equipment availability

We believe that contracts represent our commitment to you. They ensure that we are able to provide the highest level of support to you, and also allow us to reduce other costs to you.

If you move during your contract period, we’ll do our best to sort out a connection at your new place, and your contract will continue.

You can freely move between different wireless plans at any time.

If you have issues that prevent you from using your connection that we are unable to resolve within a reasonable period of time, we will release you from your contract with us.

We take pride in our local and efficient support.
