About us

## More than just Broadband.
WombatNET began in 2019 with a simple goal: to connect the places the big telcos forgot.

What started at a small coastal community near Whanganui has grown into a regional network serving homes, farms, and communities the main providers don't prioritise. One local point of contact and no call centres. We're here for the long run.

### What is WombatWireless™?

**WombatWireless™ X** is our flagship wireless broadband solution, powered by our dedicated private network of transmitters. Specifically built to serve isolated and underserved communities, this premium service provides optimised connectivity with superior speed, reliability, and performance. Availability is currently limited to select areas.

**WombatWireless™ 4G+** leverages [One ](https://one.nz/our-networks/infrastructure-partners/assets/)[NZ’](https://one.nz/our-networks/infrastructure-partners/assets/)s extensive nationwide 4G network to deliver premium-quality wireless broadband. Ideal for locations within standard 4G coverage areas, this service offers excellent speed and reliable performance. For customers situated farther from a 4G tower, an external antenna may be recommended to enhance your connection.

### What does a WombatWireless™ installation involve?

**WombatWireless™ X:******

Installation involves mounting a small, iPad-sized dish on the exterior of your property. This dish creates a direct, private wireless connection to our nearest transmitter. From there, we neatly run a cable inside your home to connect with your WombatNET Wi-Fi router at your preferred location.

**WombatWireless™ 4G+:******

If your home is within strong 4G coverage, setup is easy – simply plug in your provided WombatNET router, and you’re almost instantly connected. For homes with limited signal strength, we offer a range of external antenna solutions. Our team can recommend and install the optimal antenna type, typically mounted externally, to maximise your connection’s speed and reliability.

### How quickly can I get connected with WombatNET?

We aim to connect most new customers within **7**** days** of initial contact. However, connection timelines can vary based on factors like:

• **Coverage:** Limited or no wireless coverage at your location

• **Weather:** Severe weather conditions impacting installations

• **Availability:** Scheduling installers and equipment supply

Our team will work diligently to minimise any of these potential delays, ensuring your internet connection is up and running swiftly and reliably.

### How does wireless broadband work?

Wireless broadband delivers internet by transmitting radio signals from nearby towers directly to your home or business.

WombatNET uses two types of wireless networks:

• **WombatWireless Private Transmitter Network:** We build and operate our own private transmitters, strategically located on hilltops throughout the region, primarily located in the Hutt Valley. These transmitters act as wireless bridges, relaying signals from a fibre source directly to a receiver at your property, ensuring fast, stable connectivity.

• **One NZ’s 4G Network:** In areas outside our private transmitter coverage, we leverage [One ](https://one.nz/our-networks/infrastructure-partners/assets/)[NZ’](https://one.nz/our-networks/infrastructure-partners/assets/)s extensive network of cellphone towers. This works similarly to accessing internet data on your mobile phone, delivering reliable broadband where you need it most.

Whenever possible, we prioritise connecting customers to our private network, as it provides enhanced speed, reliability, and a superior internet experience.

### Why does WombatNET have contracts?

Our contracts reflect our commitment to delivering reliable service, local support, and consistent pricing. Having contracts allows us to keep your monthly costs lower and ensures we can maintain high-quality, dependable connectivity.

If you move during your contract period, we’ll do our best to seamlessly transfer your service to your new location, keeping your connection active without interruption.

You also have the flexibility to switch between wireless plans anytime, allowing you to choose the best fit for your needs.

If, for any reason, we are unable to resolve a service-impacting issue within a reasonable timeframe, we’ll happily release you from your contract – the satisfaction of our customers always comes first.
